A new research project on aluminium-ion batteries has started. The SALSA project (development of application-specific aluminium-ion batteries using innovative passive and active materials) aims to further develop and validate AIBs. IoLiTec is developing, optimising and scaling the electrolytes.
Other partners in the project are HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. KG as consortium leader, EL-CELL GmbH, and SKW Stickstoffwerke Piesteritz GmbH, as well as the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Institute of Inorganic Chemistry), the TU Clausthal (Research Center Energy Storage Technologies) and the Fraunhofer Society with the Fraunhofer IISB / Fraunhofer THM and Fraunhofer IAP.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the Electricity Grids and Electricity Storage programme and will run from 1st August 2025 to 31st July 2028.
Further information can be found in the Fraunhofer IISB press release.
